![]() It is available for Windows and has versions for Android and iOS too, as mobile capture is so useful in the field at trade shows, seminars and other events. ABBYY also monitors mentions of ABBYY and OCR across the Spiceworks community, which is how I found this thread.ĪBBYY's standalone Business Card Reader software can export to Outlook and other formats and has been specially designed with features to ease input to. :-pĪBBYY actually has a vendor page here on Spiceworks with product info on it and is a place where ABBYY will post ABBYY news and general OCR application stories. ![]() If people wanted their business cards to be machine readable, they'd put a QR code on it. But based on the results of Flexicapture, I'd say it's probably a good bet. The OCR wasn't perfect, my recollection of trying to OCR to a word document is that it tried to format everything too "literally", so you often didn't have a truely "editable" word document when you were done.Ī friend did some work with "flexicapture" for OCR'ing forms into a database, and has been pretty impressed.īut I have no experience with the business card scanner program. IMHO, they would have been better off buying a copy of Acrobat for each computer, but Finereader was a fraction of the cost of Acrobat. It might have been more of an issue of the cheap scanner than it was ABBYY because it would use the scanners built in scanner GUI to scan things. But Adobe Acrobat would recognize the difference. I ran into one huge problem with ABBYY at the law firm though: The scanning functionality of ABBYY seemed to have no concept whether it was scanning a "letter size" or "legal size" document. ![]() It involves setting up a "license server" but if you need some good OCR installed on a whole bunch of machines, but only need it for occasional use, it's quite cost effective. I bought it because they had "concurrent licenses" where you could install it on as many machines as you want, but you only paid for "concurrent users". It supposedly has one of the most accurate OCR engines out there. It kinda depends on what you need it for. I set up Finereader at a law firm a while back.Īs far as Finereader goes.
